The Initial Consultation usually takes about an hour. Sessions thereafter last an hour, of which the first half is spent talking about your progress and identifying ways in which to move you forward with your goals. The latter half of the session is when I will use hypnosis to consolidate what we have discussed.
How many sessions will I need?
This very much depends on your personal needs and your individual goal or goals. We will discuss this during the initial consultation. Compared to other forms of therapy, Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a relatively short term form of therapy.
What does hypnosis feel like?
Generally, most people find hypnosis pleasant and deeply relaxing. Some people may experience a temporary feeling of heaviness or lightness, drowsiness or tingling in their limbs. It is important to note that hypnotherapy is very different to stage hypnosis.
Will I lose consciousness?
No, you will not become unconscious. You may fall asleep if you are very tired, but that is not usual. You will be aware of your surroundings and you will be able to come back to a full state of alertness at any point. You will be in control at all times.
Will I remember what happened?
You will remember most of the hypnosis part of the session but not everything. Because of the way in which the memory works you will selectively recall what is important for you. Your unconscious mind will absorb those messages that are beneficial.
What if I can’t be hypnotised? Most people can enter a state of light trance which is adequate for the therapeutic effects of hypnotherapy.
